Graduated pavé crystal  ·  316L surgical steel posts  ·  Silver-tone finish  ·  Hinged J-hoop closure  ·  Free shipping  ·  30-day returns

The hoop that curves like a falling star.

From the front, a long teardrop of light. A J-shaped hoop that curves from the top of your lobe down toward your jaw, lined with pavé crystals that start small at the top and open into larger stones at the drop. When you turn your head, the whole thing catches the light in a single sweep rather than a flash.

This is the earring you put on after everything else is already on. It doesn't need a necklace to compete with. It doesn't need a bracelet to match. Starfall is the whole look.

Small to large, top to bottom

What makes this piece different from the hundred other crystal hoops online is the way the stones are arranged. At the top of the J-curve where the hoop is thinnest, you'll see small round and marquise crystals set in tight pavé. As the curve widens toward the drop at the bottom, the stones grow: marquise opens into pear, pear into the largest marquise, with the whole stone cluster peaking at the lowest point of the drop.

Jewelers call this a graduated pavé setting. It's what makes the earring read as a single piece of light rather than a scatter of stones, and it's why the hoop looks longer and more elegant than its actual length. The eye travels down the gradient smoothly.

The back of each hoop is left smooth and unset. Only the side that faces outward carries stones, which keeps the piece light enough to wear from pre-dinner drinks through the end of the night.

How a J-hoop works

If you've only worn studs and standard round hoops, Starfall's J-hoop closure takes a moment to get used to. Here's how it goes on:

  1. Hold the earring by the top of the J-curve. The hinge is at the top where you'll see the post; the clasp is at the back where the hoop meets the lobe.
  2. Press the clasp end of the hoop gently upward to release it. The hoop will swing open on its hinge.
  3. Feed the post through your piercing from the front.
  4. Swing the hoop back under your ear and press it until it snaps into the closure at the back.

Once it's closed, the hoop sits as a closed loop against your ear with no visible fastener from the front. The snap is firm enough that it won't come undone while you're wearing it, but soft enough that you can take it off with one hand at the end of the night.

Where they belong

Dinners where the lighting matters.
Candlelight, low restaurant lights, cocktail bars — this is the environment this earring was built for. Bright overhead fluorescents will flatten any crystal hoop; warm ambient light makes the graduated pavé read like real jewelry.

Parties, cocktail hours, and anything that calls for a dress.
Starfall sits in the same category as a good pair of heels: not for every day, but the piece that makes a plain outfit feel considered. Pair with a black slip dress, a silk blouse, a tailored suit, or anything that puts the ear in the frame.

New Year's Eve, birthdays, anniversaries, and date nights.
The occasions where you want to look back at the photos and see that you dressed for them. Starfall photographs beautifully under flash and under warm indoor light alike.

Weddings, as a guest, when the dress code is formal.
For black-tie weddings specifically. Silver pavé reads elegant and classic without competing with the bride. For daytime or garden weddings, our Laurel or Bloomfall styles will suit better.

One color, on purpose

Starfall comes in silver and only silver. Not because we ran out of options, but because the graduated pavé reads sharpest in bright silver under evening light. A warm gold version would soften the exact sparkle this piece is built for.

If you need a gold statement earring, our Dune Double Hoops and Bloomfall Double Drops are both designed for warm finishes. Starfall is the piece for silver, and only for silver.

The things worth knowing

316L surgical steel posts.
The post that goes through your piercing is 316L surgical steel, the same grade used for sensitive-ear piercings in medical and jewelry settings. Safe for most sensitive ears, including people who react to standard fashion jewelry posts.

Silver-tone electroplating, not sprayed on.
The silver finish is electroplated onto the metal body rather than sprayed or lacquered, which bonds the color to the surface rather than letting it sit on top. The finish holds up much longer than painted finishes on similar earrings — with normal care, these stay bright for years.

Pavé crystal set like fine jewelry, not glued.
The stones are set in metal prongs rather than glued into resin, which is the single biggest difference between a crystal earring that lasts and one that loses stones in six months. Prong setting is slower and more expensive than glue; it's also what keeps the pavé intact.

Sold as a mirrored pair.
Both earrings are made the same way and go on either ear.

Questions we get

Are these diamonds?
No, they're pavé crystals — graduated from small marquise and round cuts at the top of the hoop to larger pear and marquise cuts at the drop. Set in metal prongs the same way a jeweler sets pavé diamonds, which is what gives them the look at this price point.

Will the stones fall out?
The stones are prong-set in metal rather than glued, which is the setting method that keeps pavé intact long-term. Glued crystals are what fall out in six months; prong-set crystals stay put with normal wear. Avoid knocking the hoops against hard surfaces, don't yank them off, and the setting will hold.

Are the posts safe for sensitive ears?
The posts are 316L surgical steel — the same grade used for first piercings and in medical settings. Most people with sensitive ears tolerate 316L well, including those who react to gold-tone or silver-tone plated posts. If you've worn surgical steel without reaction before, these will work for you.

How do I open and close them?
Press the hoop end upward to release the hinged clasp, feed the post through your piercing from the front, then press the hoop back under your ear until it snaps closed. The closure is firm enough to stay shut all evening, soft enough to open with one hand.

Will the silver color come off?
The silver-tone finish is electroplated onto the metal, which holds up much better than painted or sprayed finishes. That said, no plating lasts forever. Put them on after perfume, hairspray, and lotion; take them off before showering, swimming, or exercising; wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing. That routine is what makes them last years.

Can I wear them every day?
You can, but we'd save them for evenings and occasions. Starfall is a statement earring — built for dinners, parties, weddings, and nights out. Daily wear would also wear the plating faster than evening-only wear.

Why no gold version?
We designed Starfall in silver on purpose. The graduated pavé reads sharpest in bright silver under evening light; a warm gold version would soften the exact sparkle the piece is built for. For warm-tone statement earrings, our Dune Double Hoops or Bloomfall Double Drops are the pick.

Taking care of them

Treat these the way you'd treat a good watch. Put them on last after perfume, hairspray, moisturizer, and sunscreen have all gone on. Take them off before you shower, swim, exercise, or sleep. Wipe them with a soft dry cloth after each wearing, which removes the invisible layer of oil and sweat that would otherwise dull the plating.

Store them flat in the pouch they came in, not loose in a jewelry dish where the pavé can scrape against harder pieces. No jewelry dips, no ultrasonic cleaners, no polishing compounds — those are for solid metal and will strip electroplating fast.

Try them for 30 days

Wear them out to one event. See how they catch the light, how they feel by the end of the night, how they photograph. If they aren't right, send them back within 30 days for a refund. Shipping is on us both ways.
